light and sound installation

Pleximo is a modular-mechanical installation. The installation consists of 32 plexiglass boxes which each have a mechanism that lifts their lid. It is possible to connect the boxes. A grid of LED lights transforms the boxes into projectors.
Pleximo is a straight-lined machine with a rhythmical sound and at the same time a projector for abstract, organic forms. Arranged differently for every exhibition to create a different composition in light and sound.

poetic video installation
videobook, 2 small stereo speakers,
can be displayed in any bookcase.

a colaboration with Lars Kynde

Cutting Marble / Cutting Sound is a poetic video installation that deals with the melodic lines of the Italian language. A poem about a marble cave is taken out of the cave and cut up, keeping the content but changing the melody. The poetic video instil is influenced by the timbre and atmosphere of the cave and inspired by the process of taking the marble out of the cave and cutting it up.
Cutting Marble / Cutting sound was exhibited in Florence at the NIKI institute, in The Hague at the Royal Academy of Arts and at the Biennale Internazionale di Scultura 2008 – Carrara.

wood, rope, led-waights
200 x 150 x 60

This mechanical installation is based on the principle of a clock. Weights pull the axes and move the gears. Contact microphones amplify the rhythmical sounds that the gears produce. This sounds is used to trigger a projected line that “scans” the clock. This installation is made out of MDF, rope and weights.

rythmic mechanical sound installation
wooden box 90 x 50 x 50 cm

This mechanical installation is handmade out of wood. By turning a lever everything starts moving. Little hammers hit other parts of wood and make noise. 3 stings pull 3 pistons.
This installation is used to create rhythms and was played on the Heiner Goebbels Festival at the Royal Conservatory The Hague in 2007.

wooden dollhouse; ca. 100 x 70 x 50cm, 6 small speakers, beamer.

Dollhouse family is a looping video installation. A film, projected on real dollhouse with 5 separate rooms and a front door, shows everyday life in a “normal” 4 persons family. Getting up in the morning, taking a shower, leaving for school or work, coming home, having dinner, watching TV and going to bed. And then it starts all over again. It shows life is a bore, families have fights, a home is comforting and it’s not only your family that’s weird and annoying sometimes.
A soundscape represent every movement of every person all the time, which gives the whole thing an absurdist twist.

hanging mobile
180 cm high.
300 cm max. width

“DrieXraaien” is a traditional hanging mobile. It consists out of 3 black feathered mechanical birds that flap their wings, driven by small electro motors. The flapping of the wings makes the whole mobile move and creates a ritmical sound. The black birds have real bird skulls as heads that give the mobile a sinister look.
